Reduce application fees for government job

Sunday, 18 August 2024

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has achieved a significant milestone for Bangladesh, creating a new chapter in its history. The movement that was initially started with the focus on eradicating discrimination in government job recruitment culminated in one for reforming the state.
For many students, securing a government job is the sole mission of life. However, the path to achieving this dream is often obstructed by several challenges. One of the most pressing issues is the high application fees for government job exams. These fees are particularly burdensome for students from low-income families, many of whom possess the talent and qualifications but are unable to apply for multiple positions due to the financial strain. This situation not only frustrates job seekers but also perpetuates inequality.
Moreover, the fact that all competitive exams are held in Dhaka adds another layer of difficulty. Recent graduates, already struggling with the costs of education, find it challenging to bear the additional expense of applying for these jobs.
While the recent quota reforms are a step in the right direction, it is equally important to address the issue of application fees. The interim government should consider reforming the fee structure, as a reduction in these fees would significantly benefit unemployed students who are actively seeking employment.
To reduce unemployment in Bangladesh and to support job seekers, we urge the interim government to take immediate action to lower the application fees for government jobs and implement new regulations that ensure fairness and accessibility.
