Reduce customs duty for Mongla port users: JS body

The parliamentary committee on public undertaking on Sunday suggested reducing customs duty in Mongla Seaport for a particular period to attract businesspeople to increasingly use it, reports UNB.
The committee came up with the suggestion at its 14th meeting held at Sangshad Bhaban with its chairman Shawkat Ali in the chair.
The meeting urged the Shipping Ministry to take necessary steps to make the Mongla Seaport an international standard one.
BSS adds: The parliamentary standing committee on public undertaking Sunday recommended the shipping ministry to take necessary steps to turn Chittagong Seaport into a world class ideal port.
It suggested settling audit objections regarding the Chittagong Seaport and taking necessary measures to stop misuse of public money.
The committee recommended the shipping ministry to take necessary steps to run Chittagong Seaport with efficiency in regards to import and export, goods handling, ship berthing and navigation.
Senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
Committee members M Abdul Kuddus, Abdur Rouf and adv Navana Akter and senior officials of Shipping Ministry were present at the meeting.
