Reducing plastic trash

Friday, 11 June 2021

Whenever we go outside, we witness an overwhelming amount of plastic trash not just scattered on city roads but also floating on drains and sewers. Plastic pollution has now become the order of the day. We do not even realise that we are destroying Nature that sustains us. There was a time when we used to carry biodegradable jute bags, earthenware dishes, tubs and more. Plastic bags and polythene, however, are replacing them. And it looks like we have become dependent completely on plastic and polythene, which have harmful effects on our natural environment. Polythene bags, cosmetic plastics, household plastics, and commercially used plastic products are rarely reused. As a result, they continue to end up in garbage dumps or drains, canals, rivers and even seas.
Not only do researchers now claim that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050, but they also assert that traces of microplastic have been found inside the fish we consume; soon plastic will be everywhere. Blaming the government will not do. We are the one who are polluting our environment. Each and every one of us is responsible for the current plastic pollution. Therefore, it is incumbent upon all of us to reduce the use of plastic, change our daily activities and habits, and move towards eco-friendly alternatives.
