Reforms in industry, labour market stressed

CHITTAGONG, Aug 1: Speakers at a seminar here said that industrial and economic reforms should be conducted against the de-nationalisation process to meet the challenge of globalisation.
The seminar was on 'Impact of Globalisation and Economic Reforms in the Industry and Labour Market of Bangladesh' held at a local hotel Monday.
Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) and Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) jointly organised the seminar.
The leading labour leaders of the country attended the seminar.
Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Hussain Jamil attended the function as the chief guest while Acting General Secretary of Peshajibi Samannay Parishad Riaz Haider, BILS Adviser Nurul Islam were present as special guests on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the divisional commissioner said the government was working for the economic reforms concerned with the national interests strictly keeping pace with the globalisation.
He asked those concerned with the industry and labour market to avail themselves of the facilities of the globalisation process.
Speaking as the chief guest, Hossain Jamil called upon the owners of the industries, workers and workers organisations to play a positive role in ensuring discipline, prosperity and flourishing of the industry and labour market.
BGMEA First Vice-president M A Salam, BILS Acting Chairman Mujibur Rahman, Former labour and social welfare secretary Sujauddin Chowdhury and President of Trade Union Centre, Chittagong Tapan Dutta, among others, took part in the discussion.
