Refrigerator sales boom ahead of Eid

Sales of refrigerators have boomed countrywide ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest festivals of Muslims, to be celebrated on November 7 with due religious fervour.
Competitive price and better services offered by different companies including a local refrigerator manufacturing company have geared up the item's sales this year.
Large numbers of customers are thronging different electronics showrooms in metropolitan cities as well as district and upazila towns countrywide.
"Our sale has increased about 20 per cent, and may go up to 50 per cent in the coming days," Executive of Sales and Marketing of Esquire Electronics Md Emranul Kabir told the FE.
He, however, expected the sale to rise by 100 per cent in terms of quantity during the peak time, that is, one week ahead of the festival.
"Normally, we sell on an average four units of refrigerator per day while we sell upto eight to 10 units during Eid-ul-Azha," he said.
"It's one of the important seasons of a year from the sellers' point of view. Working people use to get festival bonus and many love to buy their desired home appliances this time," Md Alamgir, in-charge of RANGS Electronics at Bangabandhu Stadium market, told the FE.
"Now our average daily sale is about Tk 3.5 million. We expect to touch a Tk 5.0 million mark early next week," he said.
"Usually, we sell six or seven units of refrigerator a day, and this rises to 10 to 14 units during the 10 days ahead of Eid," Manager of MARCEL Electronics Md Mintu said.
He said sales will boom after two or three more days.
"The sale averages 10 units a day round the year. But it rises upto 15 to 20 during the peak sale time ahead of Eid-ul-Azha," said Mr. Mintu.
He said the outlet's daily sales turnover is usually Tk 250,000 but it doubles during Eid.
Industry insiders said ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, consumers usually buy television, refrigerator, rice cooker, blender and microwave woven to ease their living, which in turn prompts distributors to come up with offers in the marketing campaign to do brisk business.
