Regent Airways, the newly registered local startup airlines owned by Chittagong-based conglomerate Habib Group is going to build a full-fledged aircraft hanger in the Dhaka International Airport.
Covering 500,000 square feet of space at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the planned structure would be one of the largest aircraft hanger in the region, company official told the FE.
The facility will be developed in association with a leading global MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) service provider, enabling it to accommodate up to six wide-body aircraft at a time, Regent Airways CEO Imran Asif told the FE.
The company plans to equip the hanger with state-of-the art aircraft maintenance technologies, enough to handle up to D-Checks (complete aircraft check), he added.
The youngest airlines company received NOC from the CAAB in April this year, registering as the 11th private airlines of the country.
HG Aviation Ltd, the parent organisation of the Regent Airways has already acquired the land from Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAA) on annual rental basis. The hanger project is in the phase of designing and other pre-construction formalities.
Construction of the hanger would start after the end of this monsoon season (September 2010), Mr Asif announced.
"We have plans to initially maintain our own aircraft in the hanger, and would extend services to other domestic and international airlines operators, subject to clearance from the CAAB," he said.
"If CAAB allows, we can offer quality aircraft maintenance service to our national flag carrier as well as other private operators within our hanger," Mr Asif said.
"We can offer this domestic and foreign airline companies our world-class services in much cheaper cost than others," Mr Asif explained.
