Regional airports to be modernised gradually

The government will gradually modernise all the regional airports of the country to promote tourism, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi said Wednesday.
"The government has already approved funds worth Tk 32 billion for upgrading Cox's Bazar airport," the secretary said.
He also said similar modernization initiatives are under process targeting to attract local and foreign tourists at prominent tourist destinations in the country.
He was addressing a media briefing on Wednesday to announce ongoing initiatives undertaken by the ministry and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to make the country's aviation industry safer and profitable.
Projects to induct two boarding bridges and a power station are underway at the Cox's Bazar airport. Very soon the government would take up a runway expansion project and radar modernization for the airport, the secretary added.
