Regional cooperation must for dev: Speaker

The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has underscored the need for regional cooperation for economic and social development of the South Asian countries. “It’s not possible to achieve progress either in the economic sector or social sector without regional cooperation. So, the South Asian countries should work together for forging relations of regional cooperation,” CPA chief Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury made the remarks while inaugurating the 3rd China-South Asia Exposition and 23rd China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair in Kunming, capital of China’s Yunnan province. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, also the Speaker of Bangladesh’s parliament, expressed the hope that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China would reach a new height in the future through the relation of cooperation between the two countries in the economic and social sectors, which will drive Bangladesh towards development. Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen and the Laos Commerce Minister were also present during in the inaugural ceremony. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will return home on Sunday, according to a news agency.
