Regional Network for Research, Edn stressed

The first university presidents' forum on climate change and sustainable growth in Asia and Africa held at Korea University in Seoul on August 17 agreed to continue domestic and international cooperation, reports BSS.
It also agreed to form a "Network for Research and Education" for addressing the interrelated issues of climate change and sustainable development, said Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique who returned home Tuesday night after attending the forum.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon opened the University Presidents' Forum.
During his stay in Seoul, Prof Arefin Siddique participated in the "University Presidents' Roundtable" to share thoughts on the climate issue and its impact on higher education in Asian/African region, said a press release of DU.
Prof Moniruzzaman Khondker of the Department of Botany of DU accompanied the VC during his visit to Korea.
"The First University Presidents' Forum concluded with the adoption of the Seoul Declaration on Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Asia and Africa which was jointly signed by the President/ Vice-Chancellor of 12 leading universities in the Asian and African regions including DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique," the release said.
The Seoul Declaration said that as university administrators could play a vital role in advocating sound and coherent reasoning regarding climate change and the responsible development of national economies, "It is essential for us to foster a new generation of leaders, in all areas of social life, that understand the global dimensions of climate change and the factors involved in sustainable development in Asia and Africa."
