CHATTOGRAM, Jan 18: The Bangladesh Railway (BR) is going to introduce more trains on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route this month due to pressure of passengers.
The BR authorities have decided to make permanent the existing special train services to meet the growing demand.
Two trains -- Saikat Express and Prabal Express -- would start running on the route by this month, sources at the railway ministry said.
Meanwhile, the ministry issued a letter of approval on January 9 to this end.
According to the sources, each of the two trains will have 16 coaches with 743 seats. As many as 2,972 passengers will be able to  travel every day.
Engineer Md Sabuktogeen, general manager (GM) of the BR Eastern Zone, said, "We've decided to run two trains on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar route by this month."
According to BR sources, nearly 40,000 people travel daily between Chattogram and Cox's Bazar on an average. The BR had been operating eight special trains on Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route from October 23 to 27 last year.
