Regulating drug stores

Thursday, 6 October 2022

In Bangladesh, there is one registered doctor against every 1,724 people. Due to which, it is difficult for most limited-income people to consult physicians. In most cases, when they are sick, they run to drug stores. They take medicines prescribed by the operators of these stores. This is particularly true for people of the remote parts of our country.
It is sad that many of these shops do not have trade or drug licenses; neither do they have permission from the government. But they are selling drugs every day and there seems to be no authorities to check their activities. It has often been seen that they are selling date-expired medicines. Moreover, medicines like antibiotics or narcotic drugs are also sold indiscriminately by them. The authorities concerned should supervise the activities of the drug stores across the country and do the needful.
