REHAB Fair sees Tk 10.83b bookings for plots, flats

The REHAB housing fair in the city saw bookings worth Tk 10.83 billion (1,083 crore) for plots and apartments.
Tanveerul Haque Probal, president of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), made the disclosure at the formal closing ceremony of the REHAB Fair at a city hotel Sunday.
He said the realtors also received commitments on investment worth Tk 27.0 billion from prospective buyers of flats and plots during the five-day fair, which concluded Saturday.
A total of 40,000 visitors visited the fair, Mr Probal said.
Speaking as the chief guest, Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad said multi-storied buildings should be built in the city as a half of the land area was already occupied.
He said the present government was drawing up a plan to provide housing facilities to homeless people by 2015-16.
REHAB, a trade group of 589 real estate developers, organised the fair with participation of 262 members and six financial institutions.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha Chairman Nurul Huda also spoke on the occasion.
