REHAB starts taking action against accused realtors

Sonia H Moni The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has started taking action against the accused realtors of the country, said REHAB president Nasrul Hamid Saturday. Mr Hamid told the FE, "We had already served show cause notice on Green Development Private Ltd on September 19 on allegations like selling one flat to different customers, failure to handover flats on time and bouncing of cheques." He said generally REHAB follows the path of mediation between the accused realtors and the victim customers on receipt of any written allegations from customers. "We have received around 50 allegations against Green Delta Development Private Ltd in last three years. Though the company solved some of the issues, most of those still remain unresolved. He said, "So we were compelled to issue the show cause notice to the company and Green Delta had filed a case against REHAB on October 5 in this regard." REHAB got around 300 written complaints from customers in last three years on indiscipline in the real estate sector of the country. He said, "We will gradually send show cause notices to another 20 realtors of the country which are under process. If the companies fail to solve the allegations after getting show cause notice from us then we will cancel their membership". Besides, REHAB is going to tighten the procedure to give membership to the new comers to modernise and develop the organisation of the realtors of the county. REHAB president said, "We have formed a four -member committee at the 50th meeting of executive council to decide the new criteria for membership of REHAB. They will provide some recommendations within one month in this regard." He added: "We are going to revise the membership procedure to control the fake realtors of the country as well as creating a healthy environment in the real estate sector."
