Relatives of more 53 Rana Plaza victims get financial support

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday distributed cheques of financial assistance to the relatives of more Rana Plaza victims. Seventy-three family members of 53 victims of Rana Plaza received the cheques from the Prime Minister at her Tejgaon office. Identity of the 53 victims were ascertained through DNA test. The Prime Minister from her relief fund so far distributed a total of Tk 22,11,55,720 among the relatives of the 909 dead and other persons injured in the incident of the nine-storey Rana Plaza collapse on April 24 last year. PMO secretary Abul Kalam Azad and BGMEA president Atiqul Islam were present on the occasion. PM’s assistant personal secretary (APS) Saifuzzaman Shikhar conducted the cheque distribution programme. The meeting was told that the government has given job to 777 persons who were injured in the incident. Besides, 14 orphan children of the victims are being given shelter and education by Rajshahi Cadet College Home while 17 are getting educational support through Anjumane Mufidul Islam, according to BSS.
