Reliance Insurance approves 20pc stock dividend

Reliance Insurance Limited Saturday approved 20 per cent stock dividend for the year 2007.

The approval came in the 20th annual general meeting of the company held at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city on the day.

Reliance Insurance Vice Chairman Habibullah Khan presided over the meeting.

The AGM was informed that Reliance Insurance achieved a gross premium income of Tk 827,534,991 representing a growth of 11.25 per cent during the year 2007.

The company registered good underwriting and investment performance and its pre-tax profit increased to Tk 100,676,431 as against Tk 70,175,154 in the previous year.

Two new directors -- Atiqur Rahman and Imran Faiz Rahman -- were elected from the public shareholders during the AGM.

The AGM was followed by a meeting of the board of directors of the company.

The board unanimously elected Habibullah Khan and Shahnaz Rahman as chairman and vice chairman respectively of the company.

The board of directors of the company is now comprised of the following members: Habibullah Khan (Chairman), Shahnaz Rahman (Vice Chairman), and directors Md Khalilur Rahman Choudhury, A Rouf Chowdhury, Anwarul Huq (Deputy Chairman), Asadul Huq, Latifur Rahman, Rokia A Rahman, Shamsur Rahman, Rajiv Prasad Shaha, Amanullah Chowdhury, Iftikhar Arshad Husain, Atiqur Rahman, Imran Faiz Rahman, Romana Rouf Rumee, Ahmad Shafi Chowdhury (independent director) and Akhtar Ahmed (MD-cum-CEO).
