Reliance Insurance approves 30pc stock dividend

Reliance Insurance Limited shareholders approved 30 per cent stock dividend at its twenty-second annual general meeting (AGM) held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city Saturday.
Chairman of the company Shahnaz Rahman presided over the meeting.
A large number of shareholders attended the meeting. They expressed their appreciation for the prudent steps taken by the management in running the affairs of the company in the year 2009. They also put forward a number of suggestions in this connection.
Reliance Insurance achieved a gross premium income of Tk 1,041,135,253 and earned pre-tax profit 146,305,851 in the year 2009 as against Tk 137,909,594 earned in the previous year.
Two new directors from the public shareholders elected at the AGM were Romana Rouf Chowdhury and Iftikhar Arshad Husain.
The AGM was subsequently followed by a meeting of the board of directors in which the members of the board including the newly elected directors took part and discussed elaborately the future direction of action of the company.
Later in the meeting, Abdur Rouf Chowdhury and Rajiv Prasad Shaha were unanimously elected chairman and vice chairman respectively.
The board of directors of the company now comprises the following members- Abdur Rouf Chowdhury (chairman), Rajiv Prasad Shaha (vice chairman), Nazmul Asad, Khalilur Rahinan Choudhury, Anwarul Huq, Habibullah Khan, Latifur Rahman, Rokia Afzal Rahman, Shahnaz Rahman, Shamsur Rahman, Amanullah Chowdhury, Romana Rouf Chowdhury, Yasmeen Khan, Atiqur Rahman, Iftikhar Arshad Husain, Independent Director Ahmed Shafi Choudhury and Managing Director-cum-Chief Executive Officer Akhtar Ahmed.
