Relocation of Jatrabari passport office

Tuesday, 12 February 2013

The area of the Jatrabari Regional Passport Office, situated at Rayerbag, is getting squeezed. The office is located in a residential area. It has no yard and streets nearby. There is no footpath. The streets are eight-feet wide at best. Local people and rickshaw-pullers use the streets all the day. People, who want to get passports, have to go there for at least three days and they have to stand in queue on the streets and wait for five or six hours. Old people and women suffer a lot. There is no toilet facility inside or near the office. People have to stand on the dirty narrow stairs and in the dark rooms. The information centre is also located on the street. So, the people have to suffer because of passers-by and vehicles. People of Narayanganj and Munshiganj have to go there for passports. People of Keraniganj and Dohar also use this office. We urge the government to shift the office elsewhere near Dholairpar or Shanir Akhra. One new passport office should be established at Narayanganj. We, therefore, hope that the authority concerned will realise the need and take necessary steps to solve the problem. Md Imran On behalf of the sufferers of Jatrabari
