The Tax zone 13 under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has awarded its best employees and officials to recognise their contribution in implementation of integrity and achieving revenue collection target.
It also handed over certificates to the newly-recruited officials after completion of a two-week orientation course.
National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan handed over the awards to the employees on Wednesday at the tax zone premises in the capital.
Addressing the programme, the NBR chairman instructed the tax officials to work honestly acknowledging the benefits in government services compared to that of the private services.
"Tax officials will have to adopt more taxpayers' friendly approach to encourage payment of taxes and remove fear-factor," Mosharraf Hossain said.
He said taxmen should not harass taxpayers at time of auditing of tax files.
Taxmen select only 4.0 per cent of the tax files on random sampling basis for auditing while accept most of the tax returns under universal self-assessment method.
The tax zone-13 achieved 13.83 per cent growth in revenue collection last year.
Recently, it has recruited 40 employees to gear up its tax collection efforts and deliver better services to the taxpayers.
Revenue collection target for the zone has been set Tk 16 billion for the current fiscal year.
Tax Commissioner Bazlul Kabir Bhiyan presided over the meeting with NBR members Kalipada Halder, Arifa Shahana, Meftha Hossain, Md Alamgir Hossain attending, among others.
