Removing fake freedom fighters
Friday, 17 October 2014
I fully support the views expressed by Abdullah Fakir published in the letter column of the Financial Express on 15th October. Those high officials who can cheat the nation by collecting freedom fighter's certificate without fighting the great war of liberation have no moral right to stay in the service of the republic. That they are fake freedom fighters has been confirmed by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs which has already cancelled their certificates. The ACC has also confirmed them fake.
With deep interest and attention I watched a talk show on a TV channel recently. The discussants comprising retired bureaucrats, lawyer and academics all opined that these people sitting in the high position in the administration have violated service discipline which is proved. Hence the normal routine procedure to unseat them from government service is not required to follow in this case. Despite all these, why the government is pursuing a 'go slow' policy regarding disciplinary actions against these corrupt officials is not known. Does not it indicate that by patronising the corrupt officials the government encourages corruption? We were more surprised to see that one of such fake freedom fighters was included as a member of the entourage of the Prime Minister during her recent visit to the United States. By doing so the government itself is losing popularity.
