Rent control

Thursday, 20 March 2008

HOUSE rent in different city areas has been increasing without any control. I live at Shantinagar. House rent in the locality has increased by almost 50 per cent.
For a 1200sft flat the rent increased from Tk 10,000 to Tk 12,000/13,000 in six months. For a newly built flat of the same space the rent is Tk 20,000.
If the rents continue to rise like this, it would be difficult for many to live in the city. Flat owners will continue to increase the rent unless controlled by the authorities. Many of us can't afford legal battles with the house owners.
The government needs to control house rent. House rent now depends on the whims and wishes of the owners. Tenants are helpless. They even do not know how to face the situation. They don't know what legal rights they have.
