Progressive Students' Alliance (PSA) demanded immediate reopening of the closed educational institutions and stern action against the student-guised terrorists creating troubles on the campuses.
"We want of all the closed institutions including Dhaka Medical College and Rajshahi University to be reopened immediately and stern action to be taken against the troublemakers," the PSA leaders told a press conference at Madhu's Canteen of Dhaka University (DU) Thursday.
Leaders of the alliance of seven left-leaning student organisations said the countrymen including students and their guardians were very worried about closure of educational institutions one after another due to factional clashes and terrorism of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over establishing dominance on the campuses.
The government is not taking any punitive measure even in the situation when students feel insecure and their education lives are facing great threats at the country's institutions of higher education due to terrorism and clashes committed by government-backed BCL leaders and activists, they said.
"Educational institutions are being closed wherever terrorism is ensuing instead of taking action against the terrorists in the name of students", Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU) President Khan Asaduzzaman Masum said.
"We ask the government not to indulge the student-guised terrorists. Take action to drive the students involved in terrorism out of the campuses to ensure congenial academic atmosphere at the educational institutions," Samajtantrik Chhatra Front President Fakhruddin Kabir Atik said.
