Replacing Mominul as Test captain

Friday, 27 May 2022

Our Test cricketers' performance graph is not at all stable. Sometimes, it goes up. Sometimes, it goes down. One of the main reasons behind their wavering performance is a lack of strong leadership. Mominul Haque, who has been captaining Bangladesh Test team for years now, is not doing well as a skipper, or as a batter. A few recent tours have proven him to be an incompetent captain.
A captain must have the ability to run his team smoothly, take quick and smart decisions, be active on the field and most importantly have a voice with which to control and support his players. Unfortunately, Mominul has been seen as a meek figure on the field and in some recent matches he has made some poor calls in terms of taking DRS (decision review system).
Here, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) needs to question if the team actually has capable players who can prove to be effective captains in the future. For the Test team, the viable options seem to be Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal. Both of them are experienced, active, commanding and talented players. And in my view, both of them will be able to handle the role of a Test captain with aplomb.
