Thursday, 21 August 2014
The High Court (HC) on Thursday asked the government to report on Tuesday how the programmes of Indian satellite TV channels are being aired in Bangladesh. A vacation division bench of the HC comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice ATM Saifur Rahman passed the order halfway through the admissibility hearing on a public interest litigation writ petition that asks for stopping the operation of the Indian TV channels as it has been casting an adverse impact on the social life of the country’s people. The HC also asked the writ petitioner and the cable TV operators, present in the court to witness the hearing, to submit their statements over the question raised by affidavits on the same date, according to a news agency.
