Report on Rana\\\'s illegal wealth soon: ACC
Wednesday, 23 April 2014
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will soon submit a report on illegal wealth of Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza that collapsed a year ago. More than 1100 people, mostly garment workers, died in the nine-storey commercial building collapse on April 24 last year. ACC secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury said at a monthly briefing on Wednesday the investigation was in the final stage. The graft watchdog decided to conduct a probe on Sohel Rana's wealth on Apr 28 last year, four days after the collapse of Rana Plaza, which housed five garment factories when it caved in at Savar town. Chowdhury said the commission had investigated the accumulation of illegal wealth and misuse of power by Rana and his family. An ACC official preferring anonymity said they had found Rana had amassed huge wealth, mostly by illegal means. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating the reason of the collapse and irregularities by Rana. Rana was arrested in Jessore four days after the worst industrial disaster of the country, according to a news agency.
