Republican congresswoman dies of cancer

WASHINGTON, Oct 7 (AFP): US Republican lawmaker Jo Ann Davis, who represented Virginia in the House of Representatives, died Saturday after losing a battle with breast cancer, her office announced. She was 57.
Davis was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a re- occurrence earlier this year, officials said.
President George W. Bush said in a statement he was "deeply saddened" by Davis's passing.
