Research-based quality edn for country's dev stressed

Speakers at a workshop Saturday emphasised the need for research-based quality education for the development of the country, reports BSS.
It was also stressed in the workshop that quality of life of the country's people would be improved if sustainable development in education sector could be ensured.
They were addressing the inaugural session of the function on 'Short Time Board Education System' at the lecture theatre of the Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-chancellor (VC) SMA Faiz inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while editor of the daily Khabarpatra Gias Kamal Chowdhury was present on the occasion. Former secretary Serajuddin Ahmed was also present as the special guest.
The VC said, "Being one of the pioneer educational institutions of the country, the DU is continuously pursuing to implement its goal of ensuring sustainable development in education to address socio-economic issues."
He said the universities should impart contemporary knowledge consistent with up-to-date curricula and moral values which would help ensure quality education and develop intellect among the students.
Gias Kamal said educational institutions, particularly the universities, were the prime movers of producing human resources and they had great role to play in providing quality education to the students so that they could make themselves worthy enough to face the challenges.
