Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, MP, has said that the government has taken initiatives for building residences for freedom fighters (FFs) at upazilas and in districts across the country. Terming the freedom fighters the greatest sons of the soil, he said the government is also implementing different projects for the wellbeing of the FFs. The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest at a commemoration ceremony of Shaheed Subedar Major Joynal Abedin Manik Mia and Shaheed Hajera Manik on City College dormitory premises in Khulna. On April 4 in 1971, Joynal Abedin and Manik Mia were killed by Pakistan Army during an operation at Gollamary Betar (Radio) Station. The Pakistan Army had set up a camp at the then Khulna Betar Station in Gollamari in the south-western divisional city, according to BSS.
