Resolve birth and death registration problems
Wednesday, 11 October 2023
Getting birth registration or certificate is a right to every citizen. For a country, it is also very important to keep information about one's birth, death and migration from one area to another. In particular, these certificates are required for important tasks such as admission to educational institutions, marriage registration and land registration. However in Bangladesh, we often face hassles when we try to register a birth or death and obtain its certificate. This suffering is more or less all the same all over the country. Almost everyone has to suffer while getting the birth or death registration certificate in Dhaka city. In most cases, the registration process in the capital cannot be carried out due to server complications. Because of this, many service-seeking people have to suffer. More than two decades ago, the birth registration programme began in the country in 2001. But still, we could not develop a system through which citizens can easily register births and deaths.
In many places in Dhaka, there are complaints that one has to pay extra money to get the certificate. The government has fixed the fee for birth and death registration certificate. However, there are often complaints that the beneficiaries reportedly have to pay several times more than the fee fixed by the government. Registration of birth and deaths and issuance of their certificates must be done responsibly by the authorities concerned. The technical problems that still exist in the registration process need to be solved as soon as possible. It is unacceptable that people will not get certificates day after day due to server complexity in our digital country.
