Resolve power crisis, or face mass movement
Friday, 9 April 2010
Opposition BNP has asked the government to immediately resolve the nagging power crisis, or face mass movement, reports UNB.
The warning came from a brief pre-procession rally at the city's Muktangon Thursday.
Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, the volunteers' wing of the BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party), organised the rally.
It sought an immediate solution to the gas, water and electricity problems being faced by the people countrywide.
Addressing the rally, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they are carrying out peaceful
demonstration to press the government for resolving the serious crises of electricity, gas and water as well as unemployment, price-hike of essentials and deteriorating law and order situation.
He threatened that if the government failed to resolve the problems, BNP along with people will wage mass movement to force the government to bow down to people's demand.
Mr Alamgir said the government will not be able to stop the mass movement by taking the course of repression.
All conspiracies of "this fascist government" and all anti-national agreements will be thwarted by mass movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia, he added.
The BNP leader said: "The present government, on one hand, created crises of electricity, gas and water and on the other created a reign of terror all over the country."
Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel warned of road blockade programme, if necessary, if the government fails to resolve the ongoing crises of gas, electricity and water responding to the peaceful demonstrations.
Later, a big protest procession was brought out from Muktangon, which was led by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abedin Faruk, BNP Organising Secretary Elias Ali, Mohila Dal General Secretary Shirin Sultana, Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and General Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu and organising secretary Shafiul Bari Babu.
