Restart at 40?
Saturday, 2 April 2011
Many English dailies published articles on March 26, with a similar theme, saying: 'Lets Start Again'!
It appears that Bangladesh, as opined in the articles by many learned citizens, needs yet another fresh start; given that this theme seems to appear every year.
Bangladesh politics and governance, after every 'fresh start', seems to promptly stall. We are more or less stuck in the first gear, for many a year (in motor car analogy); while today's models of cars change gears automatically! Perhaps motor car development is more advanced than our politics and governance! Rather sad; is it nor?
All said and done; we as a nation despite being said to have political maturity; are possibly childish in matters of political and administrative norms. Here we have the background of poor democracy; military adventurism and autocracy; as a legacy of our past!
Different people may have different ideas about it; but in the back of my mind, I believe that governance and politics should be divorced or separated. However, that fact of life is that the founder of BNP, after leading the government 'in uniform'; and then in the garb of impotent democracy; set up BNP.
In the Indian example; while Gandhi was the father of 'Indian Independence'; Nehru was put by him to govern India! If only Bangabandhu after creating Bangladesh, would have handed over governance to Tajuddin Ahmed; may be our history would have been different. Who knows?
