Wednesday, 24 September 2008

A total of 3,239 successful candidates have been selected provisionally for appointment in government jobs, as Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) Tuesday published the results of the trouble-ridden 27th BCS examination, reports UNB.
Of the selected candidates, 2,417 are male, while 822 are female.
An official announcement said 10,412 candidates passed both written and viva-voce exams, but 3,239 of them were recommended by the PSC for appointment to vacant posts.
"After the preliminary and written tests, a total of 16,418 candidates were called for fresh viva, which was held between July 29, 2007 and May 18, 2008. But 14,165 candidates attended the viva while 2,253 remained absent," said the PSC announcement.
At the previous viva, 16,342 candidates had attended the viva-voce that was held during 2006.
But on June 12, 2007, the PSC cancelled the previous viva-voce of the 27th BCS exams following allegation of irregularities, and decided to hold a fresh viva of the candidates who passed the written examinations following a request from the caretaker government.
The government also issued a notification saying that the decision was taken after reviewing newspaper reports and various allegations about the 27th BCS examinations in order to restore confidence in public mind and establish transparency in the recruiting process for public jobs.
