CHITTAGONG, Nov 11: Despite decline in prices of the consumer goods in the international markets and similar fall in the price of fuel in the local markets, buyers still remain under the grip of high price as the market of the consumer goods is being controlled by the retail traders.
Under the circumstances, consumers have called for ensuring strict monitoring at the retail level beside wholesale market and thus rescue the buyers from the persisting odds.
Vested quarters have kept the markets under their control availing the situation as the government is busy in arranging environment conducive for conducting a credible election and seems indifferent to the market.
Incidents of price hike began in the month of January in 2007 and prices of some consumer items increased up to two and a half times. Impact of inflation promptly affected the local markets, which has also affected the normal life of the consumers. It has rather become difficult on the part of the general people to adjust their expenditures within earnings.
Although the prices of many items like wheat, edible oil, sugar dropped to half during last two and a half months in international market, its positive impact is not in sight on retail market.
