Retd Major on remand for FB status on PM

A retired army major has been remanded in five-days' police custody for a Facebook status criticising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Police said Md Shamsuzzoha, 45, has been working as senior specialist for Grameenphone. He was arrested from GP House in Dhaka’s Bhatara on Wednesday and produced in court on Thursday afternoon. When contacted, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Deputy Commissioner Md Masudur Rahman said ‘His laptop and mobile phone have been seized.’ Shamsuzzoha was accused in a case filed with Kafrul Police Station under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. ‘He used Facebook with his own name. We’re trying to find out why he made the objectionable comment about the prime minister,’ Detective Branch of police’s Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam said, according to bdnews24.com.
