Rethinking business for sustainability

Saturday, 7 December 2024

Despite the political shifts in the US, such as Trump's election victory, the reality remains that capitalistic forces continue to exert significant influence. This raises a crucial question about the environment, as corporations often seek countries with low environmental restrictions. Unfortunately, nations like Bangladesh bear the brunt of these decisions, facing environmental degradation, including poor air quality, displacement of communities, and contaminated water sources.
In this context, green businesses present a viable solution to these environmental challenges. Green businesses not only help protect the planet but also contribute to its evolution by employing eco-friendly practices that reduce waste, promote recycling, and minimize environmental impact.
To make meaningful progress, large corporations must prioritize social responsibility and sustainable practices. Governments also have a crucial role to play by imposing higher levies and even embargoes on harmful business practices that harm the environment. Moreover, consumers must become more aware of the impact of their choices and actively support sustainable businesses.
It is essential that we act now to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on time and safeguard our environment for future generations.
