Retired ACC official dies in police custody in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 04: One retired government official died in police custody at around 12.30 hours past Tuesday midnight in the port city of Chattogram.
The victim was identified as Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah, former Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Nafij Shahid, son of the victim, told journalists that there were two jeeps in the nearby area of their houses at one kilometre of Chandgaon at around 8:00 am. Later, some men in civil dress took his father Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah away from his house at around 10.30 pm.
He said, "My father was suffering from a heart disease. The men in civil dress who introduced themselves as policemen did not mention the reason for taking him away.
But, they said that they arrested my father. My uncle and relatives went to the Chandgaon police station and requested them to give him medicine. But, the police refused to give him medicine in custody."
Khairul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Chandgaon police station said, "We arrested former Assistant Director of Anti-Corruption Commission Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah as per warrant.
As he was a government official we took all measures for his treatment. But, he died on the way to hospital. After arrival at hospital at around 12.30 am, the duty doctors declared him dead."
However, the body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, said police officials.
