Retired BB staffers seek festival bonus under contributory PF

The officials and employees of Bangladesh Bank (BB), who went on retirement under contributory provident fund (CPF) scheme, will not get festival bonus in the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
Finance Division under Ministry of Finance (MoF) in a circular in November 2016 said the BB officials and employees, who went on retirement through the government's pension scheme arrangement, will not get festival bonus and medical allowance.
However, according to the Bangladesh Gazette, dated December 15, 2015, the retired personnel in the banking and financial sector, who are above 65 years old, will enjoy Tk 2,500 medical allowance. The retired personnel, who are below 65 years, will get Tk 1,500 as medical allowance.
In these circumstances, the BB retired employees (CPF scheme) requested the government to reconsider the decision, keeping in mind their financial hardship and security at old age, so that they can get festival bonus and medial allowance.
"I enjoyed medical allowance until last April. But now I'm informed by the department concerned that I will not get festival (Eid) bonus and medical allowance further," a retired general manager (GM) told the FE on Monday.
The GM went on retirement in 2001. He further said the government employees who went on retirement under general provident fund (GPF) scheme will continue enjoying two annual festival bonuses and medical allowance.
