Revamping Dhaka WASA
Friday, 18 March 2011
More than ten million people depend on water Dhaka WASA. Without water, citizens cannot live normal life even for a day. The Dhaka city dwellers depend on WASA water for construction work, washing, bathing, cooking and drinking.
No one can lift underground water, nature's gift to humanity, without special permission from and charges given to WASA. People have to depend on WASA water and pay money for the use of supply water. WASA is a government enterprise and managed by a board formed by LGRD Ministry. The BSTI and Directorate of Environment are entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the quality of water supplied by Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant.
A few years back when the interim government was running the administration, it deployed army at the plant and the citizens got pure drinking water. Even last year, when eight members of parliament declared that they could not be held responsible if mass unrest breaks out on the issue of supply of contaminated water by WASA, the water turned clean.
To have clean and pure water we urge the ministry concerned to streamline the performance of Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant and revamp Dhaka WASA immediately.
