Revamping train service
Sunday, 24 July 2022
Mohiuddin Roni, a fourth-year student of Dhaka University, has been waging a remarkable protest against the black marketing of railway tickets and overall mismanagement. During Eid-ul-Azha, on his way back home, he booked a train ticket online but failed to travel due to the black market issue. Then, he launched a one-man demonstration at Kamalapur Railway Station and began protesting against the gross irregularities in train service. He presented a six-point demand and announced that he would continue his sit-in programme until his demands are accepted. Already the pictures and videos of this protest has gone viral on social media. And many of his friends, classmates, and university students have joined him in his peaceful protest.
Roni's actions have showed us how one can protest against the humiliations we face on a daily basis. His demands are rational. And everyone who travels on Bangladesh trains wants these demands to be implemented. Passengers face irregularities and hassles every day while travelling through trains. But no one has stood against them like Roni. We want the railway authorities to consider his demands sincerely. If necessary changes in the railway sector should be brought. That will not only benefit the passengers but also help the Bangladesh Railway to survive.
