Review of Hindu inheritance law demanded

Saturday, 23 April 2011

Several Hindu women lawyers of the Supreme Court (SC) and Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) have demanded effective measures to revise the inheritance law of the community, reports bdnews24.com. The Hindu lawyers got together at a views-exchange meeting Thursday at DBA auditorium and reached a consensus for the first time on the issue. SC lawyer Chitra Roy told the news agency that similar programmes were also held in the past, "but those were organised by women or human rights organisations". She, however, said they had no complaint against the marriage registration issue. Other speakers at the meeting also voiced the same sentiment and called for the review of the law. The lawyers decided to hold a press conference and to submit a memorandum to the prime minister in this connection.
