FE Report
The Power Division will place again the proposal on seven small rental power projects (SRPPs) before the advisers' committee on public purchase soon for their approval to pave the way for adding some 260-megawatt (MW) of electricity to the national grid.
"We are going to submit the revised bids for purchasing electricity from seven SRPPs to be installed in the country under the private initiative", the sources said.
The proposed rental power projects are: Shahzibazar 50MW, Fenchuganj 50MW, Kumargaon 50MW, Bogra 20MW, Bhola 30MW, Khulna 40MW and Bheramara 20MW power units, official sources said.
The Purchase committee recently sent back all the project proposals and asked the Power Division to place those again before the committee after scrutiny.
The government's tender evaluation committee selected bids of three local and foreign entities earlier, they mentioned.
A senior official, however, said the Power Division is unlikely to place another bid for setting up Ashugonj 50MW power unit mainly because of quoting high tariff by the concerned bidder.
"Now, we are waiting for the reports of the re-evaluation committee on the proposed SRPPs. Hopefully, the bid evaluation committee under the state-owned Power Cell will give its reports by this week," said an official.
The minutes of the last purchase committee's meeting regarding the bids are also expected to be available by this time, the official mentioned.
Earlier, the Power Cell under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources had invited the bid in October for the rental power units, drawing a total of 13 offers from five companies in seven locations.
On November 19, the cell floated another tender, involving offer for the eighth location, and received two more such offers, official sources said.
Once awarded a SRPP contract, the selected bidder, according to the proposal, must start power generation within 120 days.
According to the proposal, the government will purchase electricity from the selected bidders for different timeframes with a minimum of three years.
The key objective of installation of such rental power units is to augment 300MW power supply by April next, aiming to cope with the country's persisting power crisis.
Despite having the off-peak season of winter, the country's overall power shortfall is estimated at around 1500MW per day.
