Reward for busting VoIP rings

The government will reward people for information leading to the busting of illegal voice over internet protocol (VoIP) gangs.
Posts and Telecommunic-ations Division announced on Thursday a Tk 100,000 (Tk 0.10 million) reward for providing such information.
A press release signed by M Raihan Akhter, senior assistant secretary to the division, said as per the Bangladesh Telec-ommunications Act-2001, it is a punishable offence to transmit international calls bypassing the proper channel.
"The government is conducting continuous drives to check the crime," the release said.
It said a Tk 100,000 reward will be given to those who will assist the government by providing with the identities and addresses of the illegal VoIP traders after verifying their information.
The circular said informers can provide their information to the secretary of the ministry and chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission directly.
The government has been carrying out non-stop drive in a bid to stop such illegal trading.
The identity of the informants will not be disclosed, the press release added.
