Rezaq attends East Timor Independence Day ceremony

Major General Rezaqul Haider (retired), former ambassador and DG BDR has attended the ceremony arranged on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Independence of Timor Leste (East Timor) on the personal invitation of the PM of that country, says a press release.
Rezaq was the CMLO/CMO of UN agencies, UNAMET/UNTAET in Timor during their struggle for independence. When the UN personnel in Timor had to be evacuated to Australia for safety, he stayed back in Timor to ensure UN presence despite his safety was at stake.
UN has recognised this and he was awarded the Elie Weisel Ethics Award in recognition of his extraordinary contribution in conducting the popular consultation in grave situation.
Presently he is adviser to Islam Group.
