Rice, flour further up

Prices of rice and flour showed an upward trend while those of edible oil and sugar also remained high in the city's kitchen market, traders said Friday.
They said prices of almost all varieties of rice increased by Tk 0.50 -1.0 per kg. Retailers blamed wholesalers for the spike, but wholesalers said millers' stock pushed up the rice prices after the Eid vacation.
Prices of fine varieties like Minicate and Nazirshail ranged from Tk 46 to Tk 50 per kg and Nazirshail from Tk 50 to Tk 54 per kg.
Paizam, Guti Swarna and BR 28 were selling at Tk 36 to Tk 40 per kg and IRRI was at Tk 34-35 per kg.
Prices of both unpacked and packed flour increased by Tk 1-2 per kg in the city's kitchen market last week. Unpacked flour (Atta) was selling at Tk 25-28 per kg and packed variety at Tk 30-32 per kg.
Unpacked flour (Maida) was selling at Tk 33-35 per kg and packed variety at Tk 35-37 per kg last week.
Local onion was selling at Tk 38-42 per kg and the Indian variety at TK 32-35 per kg in the city's different kitchen markets last week.
Prices of garlic and ginger witnessed the same trend. Garlic hovered between Tk 50 and 70 per kg and ginger was selling at the previous week's rate of Tk 50-75 per kg.
The government will re-fix the rate of loose edible oil and sugar on September 12. Sugar was selling at Tk 65-70 per kg for the last few days.
Loose edible oil was selling at Tk 110-112 per litre and palm oil was selling at Tk 97-100 a litre, traders said.
Five litre canned brands such as Teer, Fresh and Rupchanda were sold between Tk 590 and Tk 600.
Prices of all kinds of pulse varied between Tk 80 and Tk 110 per kg.
Vegetables prices maintained a downward trend for the last two or three days, traders said.
Green chili was selling at Tk 90-120 per kg, down from Tk 300 previous week. Brinjal was selling at Tk 30-50 per kg against Tk 80-100 per kg, patal at Tk 40-50, cucumber at Tk 25-40 per kg and tomato at Tk 70-80 per kg.
Other vegetables like crescent gourd, arum root, snake gourd and ridge gourd were selling at Tk 40 to Tk 60 per kg in different markets of the city.
Potato was selling at Tk 16-18 per kg and papaya at Tk 20-25 per kg.
Prices of fish maintained the earlier high trend in the capital city. Per kg of ruhi fish was sold between Tk 220 and Tk 280, a medium size of hilsha fish was sold between Tk 800 and Tk 1000, shrimp at Tk 350-600 per kg, shing at Tk 600 per kg, pangas at Tk 90-120 per kg and cultured koi at Tk 200-220 per kg.
Poultry birds were selling at Tk 130-140 per kg, down from Tk 150-160 per kg during Eid time while beef at Tk 270 per kg and mutton at Tk 400-450 per kg.
