Rice import from Myanmar on rise

CHITTAGONG, Oct 27: Rice import from Myanmar is increasing through Teknaf landport where fish import has been stopped due to imposition of excess duties.
According to the concerned sources, volume of rice import in the current month may exceed 10 thousand tonnes as the consignment of 7124 tonnes of rice has already reached the country.
A total of 885 tonnes, 3467 tonnes and 6065 tonnes of rice was imported during the month of July, August and September respectively from Myanmar through the land port.
Following a recent visit of a high powered delegation of Myanmar government to Bangladesh, record quantity of rice reached at Teknaf land port from that country, sources said.
