Our Correspondent
CHITTAGONG,Apr 08 :With the beginning of sales of rice in open market under government initiatives in Chittagong city since April 1,price of the staple food item declined by to 150 per maund. But the interests of the buyers in procuring rice from the open market are yet to be noticed.
Concerned sources said, rice is now being sold through 215 dealers in the city and each dealer is authorised to sell one tonne of rice every day. These shops remain open six days a week and a buyer is allowed to purchase five Kgs of rice at a rate of Tk 18 per Kg.
While talking to this correspondent both buyers and sellers expressed the view that with the launching of rice sale in open market, price of
the item has dropped in the city markets.
Food Department sources said, most of the dealers are not able to sell the allotted quota of rice within a day. But the drive of selling rice in open market would continue until further order of the government.
However, concerned sources said in a bid to keeping the rice market stable for the greater interests of the buyers community, sales of rice in open market began under direct initiatives of the government.
As the price of rice has been fixed considering the buying capacity of commonmen, newly devised system will bring substantial benefit to them ultimately buyers said.
