Rice procurement drive in Magura successful

MAGURA, Feb 26: The district food office has experienced an outstanding success in Aman rice procurement drive this year.
The office sources said the drive started on December 01, 2018.
A total of 201 millers signed the contract to supply 4,517 tonnes of rice by February 28, 2019. The procurement rate was Tk 36 per kg.
On February 19, the food office announced that the target had been achieved.
The officials also decided to procure 665 tonnes more rice. The target was achieved on February 20.
After that the food office has decided to procure 691 tonnes more within February 28.
Rice mill owner Shabu Sharif of Saziara area under Magura Sadar said Aman procurement target was 4,517 tonnes initially. Now the total target is 5,873 tonnes.
He expressed the hope that the target will be achieved.
Another miller Sarwar Hossein said, "We had failed to supply rice in the government drive due to low procurement rate few years ago. But this year we are facing no difficulties to supply the crop even after extension of the target."
The district food controller Rezaul Islam said rice procurement is going on in full swing. "We are optimistic of achieving the target", he added.
