NILPHAMARI, Jul 2: Rice procurement target set for the IRRI-Boro season in the district may fail as the drive is going on very slowly, sources said.
Out of the total 24,200-tonne target, 8,502 tonnes of rice have been procured so far.
Although the paddy procurement target has been set at 1,000 tonnes for the IRRI-boro season, only 262 tonnes of paddy have been procured so far.
Sources, however, said as the procurement drive would continue until August next, it was expected that the drive could reach the target.
Sources at the District Controller of Food office said a total of 202 rice mill owners made agreements with the district food office to supply rice to the local food depots under the current food procurement drive.
When contacted, the district controller of food said: "We are trying our best to make the drive a success."
