Monday, 1 November 2010

FE Report
The government will re-start selling rice through fair price card across the country from today (Monday) for the poor people.
There are 1.11 million fair price card holders including 80,000 in Dhaka who will get the facility to buy rice at a cost of Tk 24 per kg. A fair price card holder can buy 20 kg of rice a month, said a statement.
A total of 814 dealers have been appointed across the country including 320 dealers in Dhaka to sell rice though the fare price card.
Food and Disaster Management Minister Abdur Razzak said Sunday, "We will sell only rice through fair price card for the time being and in future we may introduce ration (of different items) through this card."
He said, "We will continue fair price card and open market sale programmes simultaneously. We launched the fare price card programme last August but we had to stop it due to lack of demand from the public."
The government has distributed the fair price cards among poor families who have no fixed income, are deprived of any sort of social security, do not own land and home or any sort of property.
