Rice sale under OMS starts

The government launched rice sale under Open Market Sale (OMS) rationing operation from shops of 15,440 dealers across the country Monday, as prices of the staple remained on the up, reports UNB
Advisor for Food and Disaster Management Tapan Chowdhury inaugurated the OMS at Plassey market in the capital.
Each person will be able to buy 3kg rice at the rate of Tk 19 per kilogram from the dealers, who will sell rice under the OMS "every alternate day", ministry sources said.
Some 118,000 tonnes of rice has been allocated for the open sale which will continue up to Eid-ul-fitr.
In Dhaka city, the rice will be sold through 350 dealers appointed by the Food and Disaster Management Ministry.
