Rich men urged to pay tax properly

The government would not have borrowed huge amount of money from banks for subsidy if the country's thousands of millionaires paid taxes properly, Planning Minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandaker said Wednesday, reports BSS.
"The government's income could have been increased to a large extent should the country's millionaires paid taxes properly," he said while speaking at a roundtable in the conference room of Board of Investment (BoI).
BoI executive chairman Dr SM Samad chaired the roundtable on 'State of the Economy'.
Prime Minister's Energy Affairs Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, executive Director of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr Mustafizur Rahman spoke on the occasion as special guests.
Among others, Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Ziaul Haque Siddique, former secretaries Harun-or-Rashid and Chowdhury Mohammad Mohsin also addressed it.
